MiCT - Media in Cooperation and Transition

Established in 2006, MiCT has been at the forefront of bolstering the press in developing and crisis-stricken nations. We channel our efforts into three principal domains: Media Development: Advocating for a robust and independent media landscape, we actively engage in initiatives that support the growth and capabilities of media outlets and journalists in challenging environments. Protection of Journalists: Recognizing the increasing threats faced by journalists, we emphasize the creation of safety nets and protective mechanisms that allow them to work without fear or intimidation. Research and Theoretical Analysis: Complementing our on-ground initiatives, our dedicated team undertakes comprehensive research and studies of media systems, ensuring that our strategies and interventions are rooted in empirical insights. Our reach spans across three continents, encompassing over 25 countries , where we ardently support a multitude of media activities. From facilitating training programs for budding journalists and seasoned media producers to fostering the production of radio, films, magazines, and books, MiCT champions diverse media forms. Furthermore, our commitment to media research and monitoring ensures that our partners' initiatives align with evolving societal needs and global best practices. Within the MiCT Fellowship for Critical Voices, MiCT is currently supporting and protecting 400 journalists in distress from Afghanistan, Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, Sudan, Niger, Myanmar, and Rwanda. The organization also provides assistance with resettlement to safer countries in their vicinity and to Germany. We operate co-working spaces in Ukraine and Georgia, as well as shelters for journalists and their families in Pakistan. Additionally, in collaboration with the organization Exile Hub, we offer shelters in Thailand. In Germany, we presently have a shelter in Berlin and are soon opening a facility in the countryside to accommodate up to 105 journalists in exile.
